a short video of our visit to the chemical factory at kishnica

In the morning we went to the Kishnica mining complex, it is situated 20 minutes to the south from Prishtina. On our way we picked up our contact person Xhemajz, with coffee and cigarettes in a bar in the middle of nowhere I explained him my plan to develop crystals from various chemicals, he helped me simplify my recipe, and had a nice chat. In the city of Prishtina it was impossible to find them, on the chemistry faculty some, because of the friendly students. In the rest of places they looked at Merita and me as if we where bomb planners. Aurelio and Bettys cameras woke up with all the blackbirds in the open field where at the background Frank Sinatra was singing.
With the four-wheel drive of Merita and Fadil we continued our little trip, we passed a Serbian village/enclave; Graēanica. It reminded Anna of Romania where she lived as a child because of the Orthodox influence. The place had a strange atmosphere because of the relatively high military presence, different architecture than the rest of Kosova and the atmosphere in the car.
We arrived. The stream next to the complex was totally red because of the metals in the soil, the area was again suitable for an army of clicking cameras.
Xhemajz was afraid that we would interrupt the breakfast from the chemists, so of course we entered a fabulous of grilled peppers smelling laboratory. But just on time, everybody was still in the lab. Everybody was very friendly and interested and we made some tests. The owner of the mine Mr. Agron Zeēiri showed his mineral collection of one thousand exemplars and approved to provided us the chemicals.
The work they do there is mainly analyzing the presence of lead and zinc in the soil, Kosova is very rich in minerals. I take it as a reference in my work which I am making right now.

In the morning we wandered around in the city. We came across the old mosque, it is on the UNESCO list. We did not go inside as yet. Not far away from it there is a daily market. All are selling tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and watermelon. Everything is in really big bags, and you see people buying those bags of 3-5 kg.
It seems that in this area more old houses and other buildings remain. It feels as a fine place to be in.
By noon we are in Hani again. We sat outside in the shade and everybody in working on there computer, because of the wireless access.
Late in the afternoon, after Sara arrived, we went to the lake in Batlava with the family of Merita. It was a impulsive plan to drive us there. It took us about one hour and a half on partly really bad roads through the mountains. Some parts we were zigzagging on the road. The lake is confined with a dam, it looks like a very long filled river which never seems to end. Many restaurants are located near the stretched lake. We ate a local dish called “fli”. A really nice, but have dish made from wheat, water and potatoes.
As Merita says: 2 hours of making and a maximum of 5 minutes of eating. On the way back we encountered a very heavy rain-shower, all the holes in the road were filled with water.

Pristina seems like a city that changes every day, new buildings arising in cheap materials without plastering. The streets haven no name tags. The people are really creative in making a good atmosphere. And making a business out of everything.
We were picked up at the airport by Merita in a rented car. She was a few minutes late because the first car she rented broke down. We were overwhelmed by apologies. We drove on bumpy roads to the city, passing roma selling fruits and vegetables. Also passing the Kosova fields, a former Serbia area. We drove directly to “Hani i 2 Robertėve” at the complex of “Palatti i Rinise”. A really great monumental industrial-like building. “Hani i 2 Robertėve”is a restaurant and a gallery run by Merita and her husband Fadil. They have also a garden-terrace, surrounded by a fence which is painted with flowers, a door and two windows. Arising just from behind the fence there is a big stadion and some empty ruined buildings. It feels like a little created paradise in between ruins.

We are treated as kings, serving us beers and food. The restaurant is a complete mess, people are painting the walls and ceiling, tables and chairs everywhere, electricity wires as well. Tonight there will be a wedding for 250 people, so they are in a hurry to finish it all. After some talking and some beers we couldn’t believe what we saw. A really nice, freshly coloured space with all tables set up.
Later Merita showed us the 3-bedroom apartment she rented for us. We all didn’t expected such a big apartment, completely furnished. She put a lot of effort in it to get this place for a month.
In the evening we went to Hani again, were the wedding was already starting. The people were all dressed up, eating, drinking and dancing. First we stayed outside and they served us a Kosovarian merlot of 1981. It was a nice wine, but much lighter than i expected. More of the same bottles were put on to the table together with a really good salad and a dish with a kinds of grilled meat. A few hours later it was getting cold and we were invited to come inside and be guests of the wedding party. A night full of music and dancing, drinking and eating as if they will never stop.
